Small Business, Big Hearts: How Three 4th Graders are Making a Difference for Local Paws

Small Business, Big Hearts: How Three 4th Graders are Making a Difference for Local Paws

At Violet Elementary, three 4th graders are proving   that you’re never too young to be an entrepreneur—or a philanthropist.

What started as a creative spark between   friends Waylon, Ellie, and Kiara quickly turned  into a school-wide sensation known as Paper Inc.   With a little bit of hustle and a lot of heart, these   three students turned handmade crafts into a major   win for local animals.

The Birth of "Paper Inc."

After receiving the green light from Assistant Principal Mrs. Comer, the trio set to work building their brand. Paper Inc. isn't your average school store; every single item is handcrafted by the founders themselves. Their inventory included:

  • Custom Stickers for water bottles and notebooks.

  • Hand-woven Bracelets in every color.

  • Original Coloring Books designed to spark creativity.

  • Intricate Origami, including their fan-favorite jumping paper frogs.

While the business was fun to run, the "why" behind it was even more important. The team decided from day one that their profits would go directly to the Fairfield County Humane Society.

"I feel like puppies don't get enough love," the students shared. "Not enough people donate to animal shelters—it’s more hospitals and stuff like that. We want to show the puppies some love because we love animals."

A "Family Fun Night" Success

The business saw its biggest boom during Violet Elementary’s Family Fun Night, where parents and students lined up to support the cause. Between the origami frogs and the bracelets, the trio managed to raise a staggering $177.00.

A Special Visit from a Four-Legged Friend

To celebrate their hard work, Kerrie Taylor, Fairfield County Humane Society's Outreach Coordinator, dropped by the school for a very special check presentation. She didn't come alone, though—she brought Pierre, a charming French Bulldog, to help say thank you.

The donation comes at a critical time. Sue noted that the Humane Society can receive up to 20 new animals in a single day. The $177 raised by Paper Inc. will go directly toward:

  1. Medical check-ups for new arrivals.

  2. Cleaning supplies to keep the shelter safe.

  3. New toys to keep the animals happy while they wait for forever homes.

Wet Kisses and Bright Futures

The visit ended in the best way possible: with Pierre offering "wet doggie kisses" to the 4th-grade classes as a thank-you for their generosity.

Waylon, Ellie, and Kiara have shown us all that with a little approval, some paper, and a big goal, you can truly change your community. Way to go, Paper Inc.!
