Leading Violet Elementary School Forward: Lynsey Comer Steps Into Principal Role for 2026–2027 School Year

Lynsey Comer Named Principal of Violet Elementary School
Deep Knowledge of School Community Shapes Next Chapter

Pickerington Local Schools is pleased to announce that Lynsey Comer has been named the next principal of Violet Elementary School, following her service as assistant principal for the past four years. Comer will succeed current principal Dee “Dorethia” Copas, who will transition to the role of Executive Director of Student Services beginning in the 2026–2027 school year.

For Comer, this transition is less about stepping into something new—and more about continuing the work she already loves in a place that feels like home.

“Being part of Violet Elementary has meant becoming part of a community that truly cares about students, about each other, and about doing what’s best for kids every day,” Comer shared. “It’s been incredibly meaningful to build relationships here and to grow alongside a staff that is so dedicated and passionate.”

A seasoned educator with 13 years of experience in Pickerington Local Schools, Comer has served as a classroom teacher, Special Education Coordinator across multiple buildings, and Assistant Principal at Violet. This breadth of experience has given her deep insight into the District’s instructional programs, student support systems, and school culture.

A Natural Next Step

After four years supporting instruction, strengthening school culture, and building meaningful connections across the building, Comer sees this new role as a continuation of that work.

“This really feels like a natural next step,” she said. “I’ve learned that relationships are at the center of everything we do. Strong systems matter, but people always come first.”

Her time as assistant principal has shaped a leadership approach grounded in listening, collaboration, and consistency—values that align closely with the culture already established at Violet. She has led PBIS and MTSS programs, supervised and coached staff, facilitated professional development, and supported instructional alignment to state standards—all while maintaining a student-centered focus.

Building on a Strong Foundation

Violet Elementary is known for its student-centered environment and strong sense of teamwork—something Comer is eager to continue growing.

“What I love most is the heart of this building,” she said. “Our students bring energy, joy, and resilience, and our staff consistently goes above and beyond for them.”

She points to the school’s collaborative staff and strong focus on literacy and learning as key strengths. “Even when new systems or initiatives are introduced, our team sticks with it,” Comer said. “We work through challenges together, adjust as needed, and keep moving forward with what’s best for students in mind.”

Looking Ahead

As she begins this new chapter, Comer’s priorities are clear: strong instruction, a positive and consistent school culture, and ensuring every student feels supported and set up for success.

She also sees opportunities to refine instructional practices, strengthen the use of data, and expand student voice—while continuing to celebrate growth across the school community. Above all, she wants students to feel a strong sense of belonging each day.

“I want every student to feel safe, valued, and confident,” she said. “School should be a place where they feel supported, challenged, and excited to learn.”

Leading with Connection

Comer plans to remain a visible and familiar presence throughout the building—greeting students, visiting classrooms, and connecting through the small, everyday moments that build trust.

“Checking in about their weekend football games or asking about their new puppy—those small interactions matter,” she said. “They help students know they are seen and valued.”

With established relationships already in place, Comer says she is ready to lead with a deep understanding of the Violet community.

“Because I already know and trust this community, I can lead with a deeper understanding of what makes Violet special and what our students and families need.”

A Meaningful Next Chapter

For Comer, stepping into the principal role is both a professional milestone and a personal one.

“After 13 years of supporting students across this District, I’ve come to see that Violet is more than just a place to work—it’s a community I genuinely care about,” she said. “This opportunity is both humbling and exciting, and I’m committed to showing up each day ready to support our students, staff, and families.”

Comer is also a proud mother of three boys; Jacson, Fynn, and Callum, and wife to Jeff Comer, the District’s Public Relations Coordinator.

As Violet Elementary looks ahead, that commitment—and the strong foundation already in place—positions the school for continued success.
