June 22, 2026, Board of Education Special Meeting and Work Session: District's Long-Term Financial Outlook, Revenue Options and Reductions

Board of Education Special Meeting (Work Session) for Tuesday, June 22, 2026

During the Tuesday, June 22, Special Board of Education Work Session, the Board of Education, Treasurer/CFO John Walsh, and Superintendent Dr. Charles Smialek continued discussions on the District's long-term financial outlook and explored a variety of potential revenue options and cost reductions to address the projected budget deficit beginning in Fiscal Year 2029.

As part of the presentation, Treasurer Walsh reviewed the District's five-year financial forecast and modeled the potential impact of several funding options, including a 0.50% traditional income tax, a 0.75% traditional income tax, an earned income tax, and a property tax levy. The Board also took a more in-depth look at potential cost reductions, including the financial impact of changes at the junior high school level.

No decisions were made during tonight's work session. The discussion was intended to provide information and explore options as the Board continues evaluating how best to maintain financial stability while supporting student learning. The Board is also considering whether to place a funding measure on the November 2026 ballot and will continue reviewing financial information, community feedback, and available options before making any decisions.
