The Office of Prevention & Intervention
The Office of Prevention & Intervention provides services to students aimed at helping them make healthy choices and avoid risky behaviors. Our goal is to empower students with the skills they need to maximize their well-being and achieve academic success. We also support staff in addressing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges that might get in the way of student learning and achievement.
The Prevention & Intervention team is committed to supporting students and families to help nurture the whole child. We recognize that academic success is closely tied to emotional wellness, positive relationships, and community support so we work collaboratively to ensure students have what they need to be successful.
At the heart of our work is a strong focus on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and mental health. SEL provides a foundation for helping students and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve goals, demonstrate empathy, maintain healthy relationships, and make responsible decisions. Our focus on mental health ensures students have the tools and supports they need to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.
We use a continuum of care to guide our efforts in providing school-wide prevention programs, targeted small group supports, and individualized interventions. When students or families need additional care, we collaborate with trusted community and mental health partners to connect them to appropriate resources and services.
Our office supports the Academic Excellence pillar of Pickerington Schools’ Plan for Progress by focusing on the Whole Child and Relationships. We work in close partnership with school counselors, social workers, administrators, staff, community partners, and families, to promote student growth, emotional wellness, and family engagement through impactful programming and strong community collaboration.
